2 April welterweight matchups had to be switched due to accidents, and for the current MMA Odds and Ends I will offer my thoughts on both new fights. Tim Means vs. George Sullivan, UFC on FOX 15 Due to an injury to Kenny Robertson, Tim Means will step in on short notice to battle George Sullivan in UFC on FOX 15, which will be set for April 18 at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Means vs. Sullivan will air live on UFC Fight Pass. If Means can continue to keep this fight standing, I really don’t see the way he loses. Sullivan is a decent striker for sure, however Means is one of the best at the welterweight division at blending in all of his limbs, and so if that struggle stays standing he’s likely to win it. If Sullivan can get Means up against the fence and property some vital takedowns, he could certainly sneak a decision about the judges’ cards, but Means has revealed amazing takedown defence at 170lbs and it is going to be somewhat hard for Sullivan to do that. Means is carrying this fight on short notice, and historically he’s a guy who doesn’t get a good deal of love from bettors, however I think he has a really good shot here to either knock Sullivan outside or acquire a determination and I’m really leaning towards Means to find the victory here, even considering the fact he is taking it on short notice. Chris Clements vs. Nordine Taleb UFC 186 Claudio Silva is from the UFC 186 welterweight bout against Nordine Taleb and today Chris Clements will take on Taleb in an all-Canadian affair. UFC 186 takes place April 25 at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and Clements vs. Taleb is famous for its Fight Pass preliminary card. Silva vs. Taleb was likely going to be a dull, grinding affair involving two guys who prefer to push their opponents up against the fence until they gasoline out, in order with Clements in now in place of Silva there is a chance this could be entertaining. Clements, a striker, is in fun, back-and-forth standup charms and if he can keep Taleb from him, he will probably be able to stand at the center of the Octagon and hurt his foe. Taleb, however, is one of those men that sticks to his opponents like glue, and if he can push Clements up against the fence and property some takedowns, he can win this battle based on his wrestling independently. As a result, the key for Clements will be to halt the takedowns, and when he continues to show developments in his wrestling like he did in his last outing against Vik Grujic, where he stuffed the takedowns and then outstruck his competitor he can win. I anticipate Taleb to be a favorite here, but don’t sleep with the brief notice, even on Clements in this spot.
