Developing a cricket group will be far from simple, By choosing a group name to building a squad.
What will they be called? What colour will they play in? What will their badge look like? Who will play for them? And so Forth.
Those were all decisions which had to be made after The Hundred – a new 100-ball competition next summer, to be played for the first time – was conceived.
The contest – complete with kits and team titles – was launched earlier this season, along with the squads will be finalised on Sunday as soon as the worlds best players will probably be snapped up from the eight new teams in the UKs first sporting draft.
But do we got here? BBC Sport looks into the process of constructing a team up , to play in a competition which is totally different to anything found in a cricket field.
The teams that are new are franchises based in seven UK cities – Cardiff, Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham, Birmingham, Southampton and London. Once that has been determined, the next step was to assign titles and build a new brand.
The decision to resign from national crickets traditional format meant new identities had to be made for the groups.
To start out with, the England and Wales Cricket Board commissioned research to every one of the surrounding areas and the seven towns targeting people – that the age group the ECB expects The Hundred can draw – and those aged up to 50.
That research gave that a study on every group to the ECB, pulling out various topics, which were taken forward by a firm that was branding.
Southern Brave, by way of instance were appointed after it was discovered young people in the area had an affinity with the countryside of the region.
Manchesters moniker is theOriginals, that is really a nod to the citys part in shaping the audio landscape of decades gone by – from The Hacienda nightclub, New Order and the Stone Roses into Oasis.
Trent Rockets are so called because the River Trent runs through three of the Nottingham-based groups catchment counties – Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire – along with the Invincibles title was given to The Oval-based franchise as a subtle reference to Invicta, the motto of Kent – one of those counties which will feed into the team.
As it came to designing kits, colors that were already associated with football teams have been ruled out, meaning Manchester Originals, for instance, will perform in dark – the towns function from the Industrial Revolution affecting on the selection of shirt colour.
This Manchester strips centrepiece is that the Originals emblem, which represents a bolt from the citys industrial past, and a beehive – a benchmark to Manchesters worker bee symbol.
Designers also have produced a new alphabet with letters made from prominent Manchester landmarks and logos which will be utilised in advertising and posters around the group.
Elsewhere, Birmingham Phoenix will perform in orange, a colour selected as a mix of two local flags – the West Midlands yellow and also the red and yellow of the town of Birmingham.
It also incorporates the chevrons of this town flag at the design of this top while Indian Premier League-style gold helmets will be worn by Birmingham batsmen, an attempt to appeal to a South Asian crowd – yet another goal of The Hundred.
But what are kits and staff names with no gamers?
Among the final steps before the tournament starts – it will run to 16 August 2020 – is the player draft of Sundays men.
Each team has up to now chosen 2 local icons and participant contracted, and the places will be filled by them in the 15-man squads in a televised draft in London.
A number of the worlds leading players are available, such as Steve Smith Chris Gayle and Mitchell Starc that have set their reserve price. Every team takes it in turns to pick with all squads to contain two players in each of the subsequent pay brackets: # 5 125,000, #100,000, #75,000, #60,000, #50,000, #40,000 and #30,000.
Former England opener Marcus Trescothick will likely be at the event on Sunday and has been working with Welsh Fire, alongside head coach Gary Kirsten, to help identify potential signings.
I think that the pitches will probably be rather decent and created for entertaining cricket, the former Somerset batsman said.
The basis of it will be like what T20 cricket appears like but it is then about attempting to think fast on your feet.
Trescothick said he expects all teams to require apuzzle spinner, ahigh-class all-rounder,a bunch of rather good fast bowlers andvery good high sequence players, using Welsh Fire having already secured Englands Jonny Bairstow, Somersets Tom Banton and Glamorgans Colin Ingram – all of whom perform at the peak of the order.
Welsh Fire will concentrate on regions in the draft of Sunday, with those selections in mind.
We arent likely to go into the draft searching for 2 openers, Trescothick said. We would be foolish to.
We will attempt to pick out certain people we have identified that is going to be in key positions in the Hundred.
There is a difference of view on how the championship will play out with franchise cricket coach Trent Woodhill predicting more players that are conventional and skillsets will come to the fore.
I think this contest will redress the balance between bat and ball, said Woodhill, a high heeled adviser for Your Hundred.
The arrangement lets players bowl 10 balls in a row and that will allow bowlers to get on top and stay on top, so batsmen such as Kane Williamson, Steve Smith and Joe Root will be critical.
Equally, starting bowlers who swing the ball – the likes of David Willey, Mitchell Starc and Mohammad Amir – will be successful.
The job is far from done post-draft, however. How can you get 15 gamers who have not ever played to mold and buy into creating their fresh franchiser a success on the pitch?
Oval Invincibles womens head coach Lydia Greenway states thatblank canvas isreally exciting.
Im really clear on the folks I need included and the kind of players too, the former England hitter said.
What I hope happens is that all of cultures are built, they are the same for the mens and the womens teams.
Hopefully its not simply a womens team feeding off a mens team or some mens team feeding off a womens group. It is a joint up approach and you attempt to present yourself in a way that that reflects the people that you have included.
The draft is going to be streamed on the BBC Sport site along with iPlayer and accompanied by a live text commentary about Sunday.
How do you understand the sporting pedigree of these cities in the center of The Hundred?
1 hundred balls, eight groups, seven towns – The Hundred is still arriving.
