Annika Sorenstam showcased in Team Europe Solheim Cup success in which a moment overshadowed her championship throughout the Saturday fourballs.
Sorenstam had won both of her games on the opening afternoon in 2000, as Europe started a 5.5-2.5 edge at Loch Lomond Golf Club, just to become embroiled in a heated discussion during her following fixture the following day.
Playing against Kelly Roberts along with Pat Hurst, Sorenstam believed she’d pulled her and Janice Moodie back after chipping in for birdie from just off the green.
Sorenstam was accused of playing out of turn, with the birdie putt of Robbin away from the hole, leading to Team USA – after consulting captain Pat Bradley – ordering the shot.
Though the Americans defended their choice, asserting they had”followed the rules”, the Europeans described the actions as”unsporting” later Sorenstam was unable to replicate her chip-in.
The European group went onto lose the game 1 & 2 but were able to have a five-point lead into the last day, in which the American’s Sunday comeback couldn’t prevent Europe from winning 14.5-11.5.
