Pennsylvania is the seventh state to formally begin accepting sports bets as well as the fourth country to start online sports gambling.
There are currently eight retail sportsbooks in Pennsylvania, including six at the Philadelphia sports betting market . Additionally, there are three PA online gaming programs as well, with more expected to roll out in time for soccer season.
PA ONLINE SPORTS BETTING FINALLY UNDERWAY
After months of waiting and endless flaws, there are finally online apps in Pennsylvania.
SugarHouse Sportsbook has been the first Pennsylvania online sportsbook.
Next to go live was Parx Sportsbook on June 24, followed by Bet Rivers one day after on June 25. Both passed the testing stage and became fully operational on June 27.
Unlike the PA internet casino sites, the rollout of these programs is not simultaneous. Rather, operators can launch whenever each is about to submit to PGCB and receive testing underway. The expectation is that by football season there’ll be at least five or six programs for bettors to choose from.
Unfortunately, it looks like, at least for now, that there isn’t going to be a simple solution for users that are iPhone. Apple app store is breaking down on app submissions. As a result US programs that are controlled are having trouble getting listed. Thus far, no PA apps have a prosperous iOS/iPhone alternative.
When an update to Apple program store guidelines rolled out on June 3 those problems got even worse. The new guideline gives real-money internet casino programs until Sept. 3 to fully convert the app to the native iOS platform.
Given that most online gambling apps are coded in HTML 5, the conversion process is difficult. It is going to likely take a year for casino programs to fully convert.
