The International Judo Federation has prohibited iran after it ordered Saeid Mollaei and the World Championships in Japan to pull apart.
Defending champion Mollaei dismissed calls to draw from his game against Russia’s Khasan Khalmurzaev to avoid the possibility of facing the Sagi Muki of Israel.
Athletes are banned from competing in any game against Israel.
Mollaei dropped in the semi-finals and has been residing in Germany.
Before in 2019, the National Olympic Committee of Iran had said it could comply with all the Olympic charter and the International Judo Federation (IJF), paving the way for European athletes to compete against Israelis.
But the IJF said Iran’s activities in the World Championships in Japan were also a”gross contradiction” to those assurances.
The case was referred to the IJF Disciplinary Commission, who said there was a”strong reason to think the Iran Judo Federation will last or repeatedly engage in misconduct or commit some offence against the valid interests, principles or objectives of the IJF”.
Iran can appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the decision.
After the championship Mollaei said he feared for the safety of his family.
Talking to the BBC Persian Service earlier this week, he also explained:”In Tokyo I left the stadium with tears in my eyes.
“I won’t ever forget what happened there. I could have attained my next gold medal and my third world championship trophy. I was so ready and ready for this.”
