Emma Lavelle reports the celebrity staying hurdler Paisley Park in rude health before the new effort of last season.
The seven-year-old was unbeaten last semester – progressing from disability victories at Aintree and Haydock to landing the Long Walk in Ascot and the Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham, before hammering his campaign in Prestbury Park in March from the Stayers’ Hurdle.
Lavelle is optimistic her star can pick up where he left off – with the Ladbrokes Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury on November 29 his objective.
Lavelle stated:”Paisley is extremely excellent. He looks big and powerful and round and did over the summer!
“He is back cantering and we’re very happy with him. Even the Ladbrokes Trophy meeting in Newbury is the goal and after the races pick themselves – it’s definitely easier making plans for your horses.
“Hopefully we’ll go to Newbury, then on into the Long Walk in Ascot, the Cleeve in Cheltenham and then directly to the Stayers’ Hurdle at the Festival then possibly on to Punchestown – all of pretty Smaller goals!”
Training a horse includes a substantial quantity of stress and anticipation, but Lavelle is relishing the opportunity rather than feeling daunted.
She added:”It’s definitely a different feeling. Last year he was the up and coming and today he’s the person who must go and defend his crown.
“He’s still a young horse, however, who will only get more powerful.
“it is a great position to maintain.”
