Napoli manager Carlo Ancelotti has struck out at the condition of their rooms five days prior to their Champions League Group E opener against Liverpool.
The Serie A club, who finished runners-up behind Juventus in Italy’s top flight last season, played their first two league games of this campaign against Juve and Fiorentina whilst work on the stadium was continuing.
Napoli sponsor Sampdoria on Saturday, while Champions League holders Liverpool travel to Naples on September 17.
“I’ve seen the condition of the vanities in the San Paolo. There are no words,” Ancelotti said in an statement.
“I accepted the club’s request to perform with the first two matches away from home to enable the job to be finished, as has been promised.
“You can build a house in two weeks, however they weren’t effective at renovating the vanities! What exactly are we supposed to have changed for the games from Sampdoria and Liverpool?
“I’m shocked at the incompetence of the people in control of the work.
“How can the Region, Municipality and Commissioners fail to honor the commitments that were made? It smacks of also a scarcity of a bond with the city’s team and disregard. I am dismayed.”
Footage released on the Twitter accounts of Napoli shows there is extensive construction work to be performed within the rooms, using their struggle with Liverpool only five days off.
The works, namely changing video surveillance at the San Paolo and room improvements, were supposed to be completed by the middle of September.
Liverpool will start the defence of their sixth title after their win against Tottenham from Madrid when they travel to Italy.
