Brooklyn Nets: 66-1

The Brooklyn Nets lost characters that summer, since they watched Jason Kidd bypass town for Paul and Milwaukee Pierce combine the upstart Washington Wizards. Those reductions will alter Brooklyn’s makeup considerably, but not for the worse. Lionel Hollins replaces Kidd, and his seven seasons of head coaching experience must mesh with the Nets’ roster. At exactly the same time, Beckley Mason, at a piece for ESPN.com, raised some interesting questions regarding the reputation Hollins built with the Memphis Grizzlies.
“Is what Tony Allen does really something that you can coach?” he asked. “Is how Marc Gasol moves 7’0″ and 260 pounds to stymie a point guard something anyone can learn?”
We’re about to learn.
We find out whether Pierce’s production can be replicated by newcomer import Bojan Bogdanovic . And we’ll shortly see if the time with Team USA in the FIBA Basketball World Cup of Mason Plumlee will lead to some large sophomore effort Brook Lopez must conquer another setback with his surgically repaired foot, and Kevin Garnett must prove he’s got enough juice left to contribute more than a handful of minutes per game. But with Joe Johnson and Deron Williams in the backcourt and Jarrett Jack replacing Shaun Livingston off the bench, Brooklyn remains a savvy squad using a fair amount of talent if most of it’s nearing its expiration date.
The playoffs are a target for the Nets, and in the event the Williams can remain healthy a seed is not out of the question.
