Oleksandr Zinchenko says Benjamin Mendy’s return to full fitness ahead of Manchester City’s Champions League Group C store off to Shakhtar Donetsk is”so important” for your group.
The 25-year-old underwent surgery during the summer and was sidelined with a knee injury since May, seeing him miss City’s pre-season tour of Asia.
Mendy has suffered various setbacks since his arrival in the Etihad Stadium at 2017, following his 50m move, with the defender overlooking a total of 85 games for the club.
“I am so happy he’s back, he lost so long and everybody noticed how much he worked on his comeback,” fellow left-back Zinchenko told City’s web site.
“He’s so significant playing for us. It is a very long season and [there are] lots of competitions so we want lots of players. I am very happy for him.”
In which he was a youth participant from 2010-2014, for City’s first Champions League group match of the season zinchenko returns to Shakhtar.
Also as Mendy, Joao Cancelo, Angelino and Scott Carson have been included in the squad for Wednesday’s conflict, while Phil Foden has been omitted because of a lack of fitnesscenter.
The Frenchman comes with John Stones and Aymeric Laporte suffering accidents at the onset of the season.
“We must focus on our own game and obviously a priority is that the Champions League where we need to win.
“But it is our aim and desire to play well in all contests we participate in.
“We admire Shakhtar and we wish to go out there and show our very best game.
“Ukraine is the best country on the planet! It’s [the group ] third time here so they understand the city of Kharkiv well and a few are looking to purchase apartments!”
