Former Kerry star Mike Quirke has been set to become the manager of the Laois senior footballers.
Laois Today are reporting the four-time All-Ireland winner is set to become the third Kerry native to carry the reins at a Leinster county ahead of 2020, following Paul Galvin and Jack O’Connor took the Kildare and Wexford occupations respectively.
Quirke will take over from John Sugrue, who oversaw promotions at the National League. Sugrue also directed the side to around four of the qualifiers in consecutive championships.
Quirke becomes the fifth Kerry person to lead the O’Moore County in recent years, following Mick O’Dwyer, Liam Kearns, Tom??s ?? Flatharta and Sugrue.
The club guy of Even the Kerins O’Rahilly will aim to keep the progress made in recent seasons, as they look to consolidate their Division 2 standing in 2020.
