Homophobic chanting should not stop games, says French Football Federation head Noel Le Graet

French Soccer Federation president Noel Le Graet says he doesn’t want referees to disrupt matches if you can find chants that are homophobic, despite new rules this season that permit such interruptions.
1 matches in Nice and Metz were halted in a week of each other last month following banners were seen in the crowd.
Le Graet, who is on the FIFA Council, believes interrupting play is misguided although A Ligue 2 match between Nancy and Le Mans was temporarily ceased earlier in August.
“I would not quit the matches – totally against that,” Le Graet told French radio station France Info on Tuesday.
The soccer league setup an action plan to tackle homophobia in its arena with Ligue 1 president.
Asked if referees would accompany his petition in this weekend’s matches,” Le Graet explained:”I expect so.
“We shall make sure there are no more (homophobic banners and chants). But stopping a game? – No.”
The president doesn’t have the authority to teach referees to proceed from the rules that are new.
Addressing the lovers accountable for this chanting, Le Graet added:”Do not come to the scene together with banners, it is as simple as that.
“You can encourage your group, however [homophobia is] totally wrong morally.”
The rules were publicly supported by French sports ministry Roxana Maracineanu, who last week said she was”amazed” by preceding remarks from Le Graet which”too many games” was stopped because of incidents of homophobia.
