The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was back in Singapore for the second time in promotional background last Saturday (June 17, 2017) using UFC Fight Night 111: Holm vs. Correia. It was an entertaining night of bits that saw half of 12 bouts end within the distance, and with this activity now in our rear view, let us take a look at that of the day’s competitors we might no longer see heading to work inside the Octagon…
ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK
Andrei Arlovski
Arlovski came up at a unanimous-decision reduction to Marcin Tybura and has suffered five straight defeats within the Octagon, with all five of them coming from the heavy hitters of this branch. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him get another chance, but I think it’s very likely that we’ve seen the last of Arlovski. If they wanted to keep him around, I believe they could have given him another opponent than Tybura, as the Pole was riding a red hot win streak with a set of knockout finishes.
Tarec Saffiedine
Saffiedine has suffered three consecutive defeats and is 1-4 in his past five trips inside the Octagon. The only victory during this stretch has been a unanimous-decision over Jake Ellenberger. Due to that losing streak, I think there is a fair possibility that the promotion will elect to part ways with the former Strikeforce welterweight champion. I would say it’s 50/50 as to if we see Saffiedine remain in the organization.
Takanori Gomi
Gomi has last four in a row — throughout first-round finish — and it is likely that the 38-year-old veteran will likely be receiving his walking papers out of the advertising. The simple fact that there is a card coming up in Japan makes me believe they may give him yet another crack, so at this time, we’ve got a 50/50 shot at best of viewing”The Fireball Kid” back.
